a journey
started end of april 2025,
i. motivation
i like art,
i have always liked drawing, but did less and less of it as i got older,
art is beautiful,
it’s freeing and fun to be able to express yourself, to create something,
i think it’s a valuable skill,
a lovely hobby,
it’s a slow process,
a very manual one,
but at the same time,
you do use your brain— to analyse, to observe,
to translate what you see with your eyes or what you imagine in your head to the paper
with your hands,
so,
it’s more than just putting your brain on the side,
and letting your hands do all the work,
though i can imagine this becomes more natural,
the more you practice,
the more you become accustomed to the technique,
it’s still a journey,
and it makes me escape for a little bit— how sweet?
ii. progress, notes
- i started off with more interactive tutorials (videos)
- → easier to copy, especially at the beginning (“creativity begins with copying”)
- better guidance
- getting to know basics
- got more confident and transitioned to drawing with a reference (images)
- more challenging because 1 level of freedom to figure out by yourself
- the step by step
- the tools
- the technique
- more challenging because 1 level of freedom to figure out by yourself
- next: drawing from scratch, personal creations from A-Z (void, or ∞)
- probably can still use some inspiration and reference,
- but it’s no longer trying to “replicate”
- you are free to choose everything,
- from the composition
- the style
- the colours
- …
iii. goals
exploration is enough, just touch on multiple things, learn and have fun
no pressure :D
tools
- iPad Pro (11-inch) (2nd Gen)
- procreate
- some free brushes pack i downloaded— i forgot where…
