System Analysis Program
… or Systems, Applications, Products in Data processing?
SAP helps companies and organisations of all sizes and industries run their businesses profitably, adapt continuously, and grow sustainably.
What is SAP software used for?
Traditional business models often decentralise data management, with each business function storing its own operational data in a separate database. This makes it difficult for employees from different business functions to access each other’s information. Furthermore, duplication of data across multiple departments increases IT storage costs and the risk of data errors.
By centralising data management, SAP software provides multiple business functions with a single view of the truth. This helps companies better manage complex business processes by giving employees of different departments easy access to real-time insights across the enterprise. As a result, businesses can accelerate workflows, improve operational efficiency, raise productivity, enhance customer experiences—and ultimately increase profits.
What is ERP software?
ERP stands for “enterprise resource planning.”
→ software system that helps organisations streamline their core business processes—including finance, HR, manufacturing, supply chain, sales, and procurement—with a unified view of activity and provides a single source of truth.
SAP was one of the first companies to develop standard software for business solutions and continues to offer industry-leading ERP solutions.

Enterprise Resource Planning
Within SAR ERP software, there are multiple modules:
- SAP QM: Quality Management
- Module that handles all business processes related to ensuring and managing product quality throughout the entire supply chain (from procurement of raw materials to production and finally to customer delivery)
- i.e. system to make sure products meet defined quality standards and comply with regulations
- The integrated system used to plan, inspect, control, and improve quality across a company’s operations
- Module that handles all business processes related to ensuring and managing product quality throughout the entire supply chain (from procurement of raw materials to production and finally to customer delivery)
SAP QM
Key functions and components of SAP QM:
- Quality Planning (QP)
- The foundational component → set up master data that defines how data quality is controlled
- Inspection Plans: specify
- what characteristics to check (e.g. dim, weight, colour)
- how to check them (methods, tools)
- when to check them (at which production step)
- Quality Inspection (QI)
- The execution phase → trigger and record actual inspections
- Inspections lots: batch of material designated for inspection
- Results recording: inspectors enter the actual measured values or pass/fail decisions against the inspection plan
- Usage decision: final, authoritative step where a quality manager decides weather to accept, reject or submit to restricted use the inspected lot based on the results
- → determine if material can move to the next step
- The execution phase → trigger and record actual inspections
- Quality Control or Quality Assurance (QC, QA)
- Statistical process control (SPC): monitors production processes in real-time using control charts to detect trends and prevent defects
- Quality certificates: documents that certify a product’s quality and can be sent to customers
- Audit management: helps plan and execute quality system audits
- Quality Notifications & CAPA
- The problem-solving component
- Quality notifications: log internal problems or external complaints from customers or vendors
- Root cause analysis & CAPA: identify the root cause and manage Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to eliminate future issues
- The problem-solving component
